The Process
Four steps, and only one of them
involves a camera.
I.
Intro call & planning
You email me and we talk. I take the time to understand what you're looking for and what purpose the portraits will serve — we begin with a short introductory call, followed by a quotation. If you decide to work together, a second call shapes the session in detail, from locations and outfits to overall mood and direction.
II.
Portrait session
There is enough time and space to settle in, feel comfortable and explore. Over 2–4 hours, we create an atmosphere where you can let go, connect with the camera, and arrive at a more natural and expressive presence in front of it — across several outfits and locations if needed.
III.
Review & selection
Within 10 working days after our session, I'll send you a first selection of 50–100 images to choose from. You only pay for the session and the images you choose — many clients select 5–10 portraits for use across different platforms.
IV.
Edit & delivery
I lightly retouch your chosen images, taking care to preserve a natural and authentic feel. The aim is not to transform you, but to bring out what is already there. Final selections are delivered in the crops you need for press, print and profiles within 10 working days.

Alongside commissions I keep making long-form documentary work on identity, justice, and migration. It has been published by Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Monocle, Bloomberg, Le Monde Diplomatique, Financial Times, and The Washington Post.
In 2024, my book The Children of Bergen-Belsen won the German photobook prize. This work continues, and commissions for it are welcome, but if you came here for a portrait, everything above is the part that matters.

Before & during the session

You email me and we start with a 15-minute introductory call. I take the time to understand what you’re looking for and what purpose the portraits will serve. After the call, I’ll send you a quotation, and you can decide whether you’d like to move forward.
If we decide to work together, we’ll have a second call to define your goals and shape the session in more detail, from locations and outfits to the overall mood and direction.

Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, I work differently with every person. I want to understand what you need from the portraits, so conversation is an important part of our work together, both before and during the session.
My documentary background has taught me to observe rather than force a particular expression or pose. We take time to explore, play, talk and move, allowing something natural and genuine to emerge.

Not at all. It’s completely normal to feel uncomfortable in front of a camera, especially at the beginning. I don’t expect you to arrive knowing how to pose. This is why I deliberately give the session time. Part of my job is to help you feel at ease by giving you direction, staying in conversation and paying attention to how you respond. There is enough time and space to settle in, become comfortable and explore what feels natural to you.

You don’t need to arrive with a concept or know how to pose. We’ll discuss your ideas, expectations and what to bring beforehand. Beyond that, come as you are. A good night’s sleep helps.

A portrait session usually takes between 2 and 4 hours. This gives us enough time to create an atmosphere where you can settle in, let go of the pressure of being photographed and become more present in front of the camera. Being fully present takes energy and focus, so I don’t try to rush the process. Around four hours is often a good amount of time to allow the session to unfold naturally. If we need longer, I always build some flexibility into the schedule. If you’re short on time, we can also work more quickly and focus on what you need.

I currently work between Berlin and Beirut and am happy to travel worldwide for commissions. For portrait sessions outside Berlin, travel expenses are added to the session fee.
Images & delivery

After the session, I’ll send you a curated first selection of 50–100 images from which you can mark your favourites and make your final selection. If you’re unsure which images are best for a particular purpose, I’m happy to help you make the selection and recommend which portraits work best for different uses. There is no fixed number of images you need to purchase. You only pay for the images you choose. Many clients select 5–10 portraits, giving them a range of images and expressions to use across different platforms and purposes.

The booking fee for a full portrait session is €600. This covers the preparation, photography session and my creative work during the session.
The images and their usage rights are purchased separately. In the initial quotation, I’ll offer you a price per image based on the intended use. The image fee also covers the usage rights, defining which images you can use and in what context for your business.

You’ll receive your first selection within 10 working days of the session.
Once you’ve made your final selection, your finished portraits will be delivered within a further 10 working days. If you need the images sooner, just let me know and we can discuss what’s possible.

Yes. Your final selection can be delivered in the crops and formats you need for press, print, websites and professional profiles.
Rights & practicalities

As the photographer, I retain the copyright to the images. You purchase a license that gives you permission to use the images in the ways agreed upon.
The license specifies how, where and for how long you can use the images. This can include your website, LinkedIn, speaker bio, press releases, books, magazines and other professional or commercial uses. We’ll discuss how you plan to use the images before I send you the quotation, so the license can be tailored to your needs. I also retain the right to use the images on my own portfolio, website, advertising and marketing, as well as for competitions and exhibitions.

Yes. You can purchase additional images at any time.
If you would like exclusive rights to your images, please let me know. Exclusive rights mean that you can use the images for the agreed commercial purposes and I will not use them for my own website, portfolio or marketing. We can then work out a separate fee based on the scope and duration of the exclusivity.

No. Editing is an integral part of my image-making process, so I don’t deliver unedited RAW files.

I ask that the finished photographs are not altered or filtered. The edit is part of my work and helps keep the images consistent with my visual style. If you need a particular colour treatment or adaptation for your brand, let’s discuss it before the session.

If you need to reschedule, please give me at least 48 hours’ notice. You can reschedule your booking once at no additional cost.
If you need to reschedule a second time, a €100 rescheduling fee will apply.
If you cancel within 48 hours of the session, the €600 booking fee is non-refundable.

If the weather makes it difficult or unsuitable to hold the session outdoors, we’ll reschedule at no additional cost.
